Expression of Interest for Consultancy Services for the Engagement of an Environmental Consultant for the Preparation of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESIA/ESMP) for Sokoto-Rima River Basin Development Authority Overall Objective of The Assignment The objective of the consultancy services by the Consultant is to prepare an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESIA/ESMP) for Sokoto-Rima River Basin Development Authority as indicated below: a) Identify the political, legal and institutional framework relating to the preparation and implementation of the project. b) Ensure proper consultations with the communities within and around the project area in line with regulatory requirements; c) Establish existing baseline (biological, physical and socio-economic) conditions of the project locations d) Characterize the environment, and identify hazards and impacts associated with the proposed project; e) Identify potential negative impacts that may arise as a consequence of the project implementation. f) Identify opportunities to enhance positive impacts and project benefits; g) Recommend preventive, reduction and control measures for identified potential/associated adverse impacts of the proposed project; h) Develop an Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for the lifetime of the project; i) Provide management tools necessary to address claims from third parties including resettlement of local communities as a result of its project activities;(if applicable) and j) Provide all necessary data, information and objective evidence required for developing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the proposed projects. k) The Programme for Integrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Niger Basin (PIDACC/NB)-Nigerian Component PIU now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services.
