The Marine Research Institute Will Use Next-Generation Sequencing Technology To Characterize The Metagenome Of Water Samples From Commercial Atlantic Salmon Farms In Order To Understand The Diversity And Distribution Of Bacteria, Viruses, Parasites And Planktonic Threats Throughout The Water Column, Both Temporally And Spatially. The Trial Will Include 6 Farms And Will Continue For 12 Months, Starting As Soon As Possible. The Institute Of Marine Research Will Provide Training And Instructions To The Samplers. Weekly Water Samples Will Be Collected Using A Niskin Sampler And Filtered On Site By Local Personnel Before Going To Dry Storage For Bulk Shipment Monthly. In Connection With The Sampling, There Is A Need For Encapsulated, Pressure-Driven Membrane Filter Units That Can Be Connected Directly To A Vampire Sample Collector, A Portable Peristaltic Pump.
