Request for Proposals (RFP) for Te Anau Lions Park Playground Redevelopment Open Date: Monday, 9 September 2024 9:00 AM (Pacific/Auckland UTC+12:00) Close Date: Friday, 15 November 2024 4:00 PM (Pacific/Auckland UTC+13:00) Tender Type: Request for Proposals (RFP) Tender Coverage: Sole Agency Regions: Southland Required Pre-qualifications: None Overview: Southland District Council (Council) intends to appoint a playground supply company with whom Council will enter into a Contract to provide a design and build service for the delivery of the Te Anau Lions Park playground redevelopment located at 15 Mokonui Street, Te Anau. The budget set aside for this project of $580,000 is a mix of Better Off funding and local funding to deliver a Fiordland alpine highway and wilderness bespoke themed playground. What is a Fiordland alpine highway and wilderness bespoke themed playground? Mountains Native birds relative to the area Wind Homer Tunnel Journey to Milford and Fiordland Rainforest Rivers, lakes. 90% of the equipment currently in the playground is at the end of its life which will need to be removed. The remaining 10% of equipment is still in good condition. Te Anau is known for its picturesque scenery and is the main visitor base (gateway) to Milford Sound and Fiordland National Park. Lake Te Anau is the largest lake in the South Island and is popular for its local activities, which include scenic flights, hiking, hunting, mountain biking, water activities, glow worm caves and exploring the bird sanctuary (Kaka, Kea and Takahe birds in particular). The playground will need to be compliant with the current playground standards NZS 5828:2015 and ongoing operating costs will need to be taken into consideration. Engagement with mana whenua and the community board will need to happen before any design is approved, and this will need to be done through Council engagement staff.
