As of 5th August 2024, Kaipara District Council along with other Northland Councils have retained the roading activities to their home Councils. Further, a new road maintenance activities contract has been awarded to Downer New Zealand commencing 1st July 2024 to 30th June 2027. It is intended that the Council and Contractor staff work in a collaborative manner (similar to an Integrated Delivery Model) to ensure that the best decisions and outcomes are made to achieve a dependable roading network. Given the new approach, the Engineer to the Contract shall provide mentoring and development capability to staff as required. The other responsibilities of the role are: As expert adviser to and representative of the Principal, giving directions to the Contractor on behalf of the Principal, and acting as agent of the Principal in receiving payment claims and providing Payment Schedules on behalf of the Principal; and Independently of either contracting party, to fairly and impartially make the decisions entrusted to him or her under the Contract, to value the work, and issue certificates.
