They are being established with the aim of lifting educational achievement of students. Budget 2024 provides $153 million for up to 15 new charter schools to be established, and 35 state schools to convert in 2025-26, depending on demand and suitability. The Charter School Agency is now beginning the application process to progress capable applications through to a second stage with the aim of having the first schools open in Term 1 2025. While the process can get underway, decisions will not be made until the legislation is passed and the Charter School Authorisation Board is established.
