Tenders are invited for On-Board Quantum Random Bit Generation Technology Enhancement Next generation space mission security architectures will require Non-deterministic Random Bit Generation (NRBG) technology on board satellites in support of security functions such as cryptographic key generation. Quantum phenomena have already been considered and exploited for the generation of random numbers/bits. While a few European developments are already ongoing, this activity aims atthe study, design and prototyping of next-generation QRBGs, addressing both design and performance assessment challenges both for certification and in-flight operation affecting current generation. Furthermore, high-end NRBGs (relevant for high-end security) willrequire randomness source diversity in order to meet robustness requirements for which Quantum technology could complement other established technologies to derive randomness. The activity encompasses the following tasks:- Study how to leverage the space environment to enhance the quality of the entropy source- Study and design an internal health monitoring concept (e.g. real-time fault detection, self-test, performance degradation model) adapted to the quantum nature of the entropy source- Design a robust QRNG architecture for high-speed operation targeting real-time generation, possibly employing parallel and/or diverse entropy sources- Develop a proof-of-concept model (breadboard)- Analyze and define a performance characterization approach (experimentation plan)- Assess and compare breadboard performance with respect to commercial NRBG technologies- Synthesize results and determine technology development plan Tender Link : https://esastar-publication-ext.sso.esa.int/ESATenderActions/filter/open
