The Ethnic Communities Violence Prevention (ECVP) programme, introduced by the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), aims to address family violence and sexual violence (FV/SV) within ethnic communities. This initiative aligns with Te Aorerekura, with a specific focus on Action 23: Developing prevention programmes for ethnic communities. The ECVP initiative places emphasis on research to understand the extent, drivers, and contributors of FV/SV, identify gaps, and inform effective and culturally-responsive FV/SV prevention and response policy and frameworks. There are two main research objectives: 1. To investigate the experiences of FV/SV within South Asian communities, including underlying structural inequities and societal inequalities. 2. To examine the social, political, and economic costs and benefits of various prevention and response frameworks from a public policy perspective, particularly within ethnically diverse communities. This research will develop evidence-based guiding principles and a blueprint aimed at addressing the multifaceted needs of ethnically diverse communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
