Road Vulnerability Assessment: Assessing Disaster And Climate Risks To Support Mitigation Works Under The Malawi Resilient And Strategic Transport Operational Enhancement Project (Restore). Publication Date: 4/12/2024 12:00 Am Edt Eoi Deadline: 4/22/2024 11:59 Pm Edt Project Driven Technical Assistance. The World Bank Strives To Providing Support To Its Clients With The Goal To Maximize The Use Of Project Financing. With Support From The GfdrrS Japan-World Bank Program To Mainstream Disaster Risk Management In Developing Countries, This Assignment Aims At Providing Key Information To The Design And Early Implementation Of Restore. To Do So, The Consultancy Will Deliver Outputs To Be Used On The Feasibility Study And Subsequent Detailed Engineering Designs Of Selected Road Investments Under RestoreS Financing. Objectives The Overall Objective Of This Assignment Is Three-Fold: (I) To Specify A Proposed Vulnerability Assessment Methodological Framework; (Ii) To Deploy The Proposed Method In Selected Roads In Malawi; And (Iii) To Support Defining Feasibility Studies Required For RestoreS Investments. Comprehensive Vulnerability Assessment (Va) Is Key To Informing Feasibility Studies And Engineering Designs To Mitigate Disaster And Climate Risks. Vas Have Served And Will Continue To Support The World Bank And Its Clients To Better Tackle The Intrinsic Complexities To Promote Resilience At The Asset Level. Understanding The Nexus Between Environmental Conditions And The Built Environment Is Key To Supporting Engineers In Designing Interventions To Mitigate Disaster And Climate Risks. To This End, The Assigned Consultant Is Expected To Assess Physical Vulnerability Of Transport Assets Against Exposed Natural And Climate Hazards To Better Frame The Subsequent Feasibility Study To Be Hired By The Government Of Malawi. Beyond Road Vulnerability Assessments. Vas Are Expected To Preliminary Define The Scope Of Feasibility Studies And Subsequently Detailed Engineering Designs For New Assets Or Retrofit Investments. As Such, Initial Studies On Physical Asset Condition And Vulnerability, Natural And Climate Hazards, Exposure Are Expected In Va Assignments As Illustrated In Figure 1. In This Context, All Required Activities For This Consultancy Ought To Ensure That Collected/Acquired Data, Analysis, Models, Among Other Outputs, Are Developed Under Strict Geographic Specifications And Delivered In A Geographical Information System (Gis) Environment To Ensure Future Development Of The Work. In Doing So, The Results Of The Assignment Should Also Support (I) The Development Of Asset Management Systems; (Ii) The Continuous Collection Of Asset Data Conditions; And (Iii) Client Capacity Building To Support Resilient Informed Investments.
