The ICAO New Technologies Working Group (NTWG) develops strategy, policy, specifications, and guidance material in relation to the manufacture, security, testing, issuance, deployment, and globally interoperable use of Machine-Readable Travel Documents (MRTDs) and the sharing or exchange of traveller information for the purpose of holder identification, document validation and secure border control. The Group conducts ongoing research into technology suitable for deployment in MRTDs, issuance and border control environments, and information sharing initiatives and supports the ICAO Secretariat in ensuring that the specifications contained in ICAO Doc 9303 are current and relevant in a changing environment. In addition, it provides support to the ICAO Public Key Directory (PKD) Board. The ICAO NTWG 2024 Request For Information (RFI), is open to entities interested in providing information on: 1. strengthening electronic machine-readable travel documents (eMRTD), 2. leveraging existing eMRTD technologies, and 3. future forms of eMRTDs and associated systems.
