For This Project, Welthungerhilfe (Whh) Has Secured Funding From The European Union For Lot 3: Reforestation, Afforestation & Land Restoration In Areas Adjacent To Burao, Somaliland, With An Overarching Goal To Contribute To Systemic Climate-Change Resilience, Food, Fodder And Water Security In Vulnerable Communities In Burao, Somaliland. Following A Joint Assessment Conducted By Whh And Its Partners: Candle Light And Engineers For Movrd, The Critical Need For Improvement Of Water Access For Communities In The Village Was Highlighted. It Was Determined That Constructing An Underground Water Storage Berkad Structures With A Capacity Of 287.4 Cubic Meters Each Would Effectively Address The Need. Therefore, The Project Aims To Construct Ten (10) Water Structures (9 New Ones, 1 Rehabilitation) In Burao District To Ensure That Targeted Beneficiaries Have Reliable Access To Water, Particularly During Both Rainy And Dry Seasons. Each Berkad Is Anticipated To Serve 30 Households For A Period Of 5 Months, Providing 10 L/C/D (Liters Per Capita Per Day), Assuming Each Household Is Composed Of 6 Individuals.
