Work Detail
Expression of Interest are invited for Study of Gendered Mobility Patterns to Inform Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC). Description: The lack of safe public transport services contributes to the low female labor force participation. While cultural and social norms explain a part of it, another factor is that women increasingly experience travel poverty as they are the direct recipients of poor public transport infrastructure, as they have much lower access to private vehicles. The Gurugram Metro will provide connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City with Spur to Dwarka Expressway. The metro will cover a distance of 28.50 km with 27 stations on the route. The project has a huge transformative potential that may support increased participation of women in economic and social activities, to improve access to education as well as to ensure safer access to healthcare and care work services for women and girls. The World Bank (WB) has recently conducted a study on Gendered mobility patterns to inform Delhi Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB) Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) to understand gendered mobility patterns, mobility needs and preferences of women across the corridor. However, to have an in-depth understanding of the needs, requirements, and preferences of people especially women, a Gurugram-specific study is required to be conducted. To further advance gender-informed planning and execution on the Gurugram metro route, the WB task team seeks to assist HMRTC in framing and implementing a sound gender-responsive urban mobility strategy, underpinned by a clear, results-oriented gender action plan for promotion of safe, affordable, and accessible public transport and public spaces in the metro route. The overall objectives of WB support to HMRTC are to: Understand gendered mobility patterns, mobility needs and preferences of women and girls in the metro route so that the HMRTC could act as a facilitator for enhanced mobility of women and girls. Promote use of affordable, reliable, rapid, and safer mobility modes like Gurugram Metro amongst women and girls. Understand the socio-economic factors constraining the mobility of women and girls in the Gurugram metro route. Develop policy level, infrastructure, and s solutions to ease first and last mile connectivity, encourage multimodality, etc. to support the development of safe and inclusive public transport and public spaces. Understand the relationship between the lack of safe, inclusive transport and female labor force participation (FLFP), education, skill training & economic participation. Understand challenges faced by commuters in different weather conditions such as interruption of travel and reduction in level of comfort/safety due to floods and heat.
