The A44 Was Built In The Period From 1935 As The A4 Highway, Making It One Of The Oldest Motorways In The Netherlands. The Rijksweg Includes The Four Engineering Complexes From The Project Scope, Which Were Built In The 1930S (1933-1939). The Objects Were Not Built With Their Current Use In Mind. Research Has Shown That Three Of These Works Of Art Are Nearing The End Of Their Lifespan. Renovation Of These Works Of Art Is No Longer Possible Due To Their Poor Condition. This Concerns The Kaagbrug, Lisserweg And The Hoofdvaart Viaduct. When The Kaag Bridge Is Replaced, The Alignment Of The Kaag Bridge Will Be Changed, Making The Nieuwerkerkertocht Work Of Art A Necessary Part Of The Scope. Nieuwerkerkertocht Concerns A Culvert That Passes Under The Road Just Behind The Kaag Bridge. See The Previously Completed Field For A Short Description.
