The Project Transboundary Protection And Sustainable Management Of The Marine And Coastal Regions In Kwale, Kenya And Tanga, Tanzania Makes A Significant Contribution To The Conservation Of Marine And Coastal Biodiversity In The Border Regions Of Kwale, Kenya And Tanga, Tanzania. To This End, A Mechanism For Effective Transboundary And Participatory Management Of Marine And Coastal Resources Will Be Introduced Together With The Relevant Stakeholders. Targeted Are Specialist Organizations, Local Administrations And Beach Management Units (Bmus). In Addition, Relevant Ministries And Subordinate Authorities, Experts And Decision-Makers Responsible For The Conservation And Protection Of Marine And Coastal Ecosystems At National, Regional Or Local Government Level Will Have Their Capacities Strengthened, Particularly For Interdisciplinary, Cross-Sectoral Collaboration And Cross-Border Coordination. The Results Are: (I) The Conceptual, Strategic And Institutional Foundations For The Protection And Sustainable Use Of The Kwaletanga Marine And Coastal Region Have Been Recorded And Revised; (Ii) Conservation And Sustainable Management Measures Will Be Piloted In Selected Local And Transboundary Areas Of New And Existing Marine And Coastal Protected Areas In The Kwaletanga Region; (Iii) Local Populations Have Access To And Develop Income Opportunities From The Sustainable Use Of Coasts And Marine Ecosystems/Resources; (Iv) Project Experiences And The Accumulated Knowledge On The Protection And Sustainable Use Of The Kwaletanga Marine And Coastal Region Are Disseminated At National, Regional And International Levels And Associated Processes With Relevant Institutions Are Supported. Similar Activities Are Being Carried Out In Both Tanga (Tanzania) And Kwale (Kenya). Through Better Equipment And Training, Line Ministries And Other Relevant Institutions Will Be Able To Carry Out Monitoring And Control Measures In Existing And Future Protected Areas. Village Organizations, Primarily Beach Management Units (Bmus), Carry Out Activities To Ensure Equitable Access To Resources, Rehabilitation And Protection Of Local Ecosystems. The Villages/Bmus Also Receive Financial And Technical Support In Implementing The Renovation Measures And Monitoring Their Success. National Organizations From Both Countries Will Be Strengthened And Networked Through The Appropriate Regional Platforms. Informed Decision-Makers From Relevant Institutions Contribute To Introducing Practical Knowledge On The Protection And Sustainable Use Of Marine And Coastal Zones Into National, Regional And International Legislation. The Project Anchors Knowledge And Increases Awareness At The Regional Level To Ensure Scaling Up Of Transboundary Marine Resources Beyond The Project Area.
