Fenland District Council (Fdc) Wishes To Appoint A Suitably Qualified Principal Contractor To Undertake Surfacing, Waterproofing And Expansion Joint Replacement Works Along The Suspended Concrete Quay At Wisbech Port, Cambridgeshire, Pe13 3By. The Works Have Been Specified In Preparation For Concrete Repairs Works To Be Undertaken To The Concrete Deck Soffit, Piers And Beams. The Specialist Concrete Repair Works Shall Commence Following The Completion Of Above Detailed Works And Are To Be Completed By Others. The Suspended Quay Consists Of A Reinforced Concrete Superstructure Formed Of Longitudinal Edge Beams And A Continuous Deck Slab Spanning Between Transverse Beams. Precast (Pc) Piles Support The Quay Along Transverse Beams And Roadside Longitudinal Beams. Typically, The Quay Is 10.9M Wide And Approximately 827M In Length, Being Divided Into Nine Sections With Expansion Joints At Approximately 92M Spacing, However Only Some Sections Of The Quay Are To Be Repaired Under This Contract. The Suspended Quay Incorporates Three Shipping Berths, Two Of Which Are Located At The Town Quay Berth And Are Incorporated Within The Works Area. The Suspended Quay Is Used By The Port Of Wisbech To Load And Unload Cargo From Visiting Vessels And For Storage Of Goods In Transit. The Suspended Quay Forms An Active Part Of An Operational Port And Therefore Consideration Will Need To Be Given To Programming And Co-Ordinating The Works And Facilitating Vehicle Access Past The Works Where Possible With The Minimum Amount Of Disruption. The Contractor Shall Determine If It Is Viable For One Of The Shipping Berths To Remain Operational During The Works Without Comprising The Health & Safety Of Their Own Or The Port Operator’S Workforce, Whilst Not Impacting On The Overseeing Organisations Programme Requirements. Co-Ordinating And Undertaking Certain Elements Of The Works During Neap Tide Times When The Port Is Less Active Will Reduce Both Health & Safety Risk And Disruption. Following A Recent Detailed Concrete Condition Survey Being Undertaken By Nicholls Colton, The Councils Appointed Structural Engineers Recommended That Works To Sections Of The Quay Structure, Highlighted As “Red – Were To Be Undertaken Within A Two-Year Period And By November 2023. The Proposed Works Primarily Comprise Of:- • The Removal Of The Existing Asphalt Surface Course By Cold Milling To A Depth Of 40Mm Over 2830 M2 • Preparation Of The Concrete Deck By Scraping, Filling And Captive Blasting To Remove All Surface Material And Tack Coat Remnants. Thoroughly Clean The Surface And Apply A Primer Followed By A High Performance Concrete Deck Waterproofing System Over 2830 M2 • Application Of A Bond Coat And Hotmelt Bitumen Tact Coat Followed By A 45/50Mm Thick Modified Heavy Duty Performance Hra Or 10Mm Sma Surface Course With A Minimum 55 Psv And Have A Void Content Of Less Than 4%, To Include Treatment Of All Cold Joints With 50-70 Pen Hot Applied Bitumen Over 2830M2. The Surface Course Material Shall Be Resistant To Rutting And Suitable For Use Within A Low Speed An Environmentally Demanding Shipping Port Location With Daily Hgv And Crane Loading. • The Removal And Replacement Of 4No Existing Type 6, Bej 8 Expansion Joints @ Chainage Ch208, Ch301, Ch667 & Ch758. Works To Include For All Floor Sawing, Disc Cutting, Primer, Joint Sealing, Recess Forming (Where Required) Nosing And Patching Works Including Disposal Of All Material. Any Exposed Steelwork To Be Suitably Cleaned And Treated With A Zinc Rich Primer. • Removal Of Redundant Double Bitt Mooring Bollards And Either Disposal Or Retention For Re-Use As Specified. Works To Include Plugging Deck Bolt Holes With A Suitable Fast Fill Concrete/Grout And Surface Course Reinstatement. • Application Of Thermoplastic Road Markings As Per General Arrangement Drawing P141/05 Rev A Site Location: Wisbech, Cambridgeshire.
