Work Detail
Tenders Are Invited For Transportation And Recycling Of E-Wastes. Waste Electrical And Electronic Equipment (Weee) Or E-Wastes Are The Most Commonly Used Terms For Electrical And Electronic Wastes And Include All Components, Subassemblies And Consumables, Which Are Part Of The Equipment At The Time Of Discarding. E-Wastes Include Computers, Laptops, Printers, Fax Machines, Household Appliances Such As Refrigerators, Washing Machines, Microwaves, Televisions, And Radios, Among Others, Which Are Intended To Be Discarded. E-Wastes Are A Waste Stream With A Unique Combination Of Characteristics And Broadly Consist Of Ferrous And Non-Ferrous Metals, Plastics, Glass, Printed Circuit Boards And Other Items. They Contain Valuable Materials That Can Be Recovered And Recycled. However, The Presence Of Elements Like Lead, Mercury, Arsenic, Cadmium, Selenium, And Hexavalent Chromium Classifies Them As Hazardous Wastes. Overall, It Is Estimated That Around 12,000 Tonnes Of E-Wastes Are Generated In Mauritius Annually And This Amount Is Expected To Grow Over The Coming Years. In Recognition Of The Negative Environmental And Health Risks Associated With The Haphazard Disposal Of E-Wastes And Their Growing Amounts, An Environmentally Sound And Sustainable Approach Should Be Adopted For Their Disposal. There Is Currently No Established System For The Collection And Management Of E-Wastes From Households. Pending The Implementation Of A System For The Environmentally Sound Management Of E-Wastes, There Is A Need To Provide For The Proper Collection And Recycling Of E-Wastes Generated In Mauritius. E-Wastes Generated From Households Were Previously Collected Through A National E-Wastes Collection Campaign Held In 2019 And Some Of The E-Wastes Collected Are Currently Being Stored At Khoyratty And Have Not Yet Been Recycled. The Purpose Of This Bidding Exercise Is To Invite Bidders To Submit Their Bids For The Following: 1. Receipt And Unloading Of An Estimated Number Of 10,250 E-Wastes To Be Delivered By The Outgoing Contractor. 2. Transportation And Unloading Of An Estimated Number Of 12,960 E-Wastes From Khoyratty To The Premises Of The Contractor For Recycling; 3. Transportation And Unloading Of Scrap Wastes With No Electronic Or Hazardous Components (From Severely Damaged E-Wastes) From Khoyratty To Relevant Registered Recycler/Exporter Or To Roche Bois Transfer Station; 4. Loading, Transportation And Unloading Of E-Wastes From Waste Management Facilities And Other Temporary Storage Areas, As Required By The Employer; 5. Conditions For Temporary Storage Of E-Wastes / E-Waste Fractions At Premises Of Contractor Prior To Dismantling / Recovery / Disposal; 6. Dismantling Of The E-Wastes In An Environmentally Sound Manner For Recovery; 7. Management Of E-Wastes Fractions For Recovery / Disposal Tender Link :
