As an outcome of a review of the Fitness to Practise Process (The Compassion Project), the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) aims to improve how it engages with and provides support to people on the Register going through the FTP process. Through our engagement with registrants going through the Fitness to Practise process we are aware that the inquiry experience can be stressful and worrying and that registrants may require additional information about the FTP and Inquiry Process as well as emotional support and advice on managing their wellbeing during the period leading up to and including their inquiry. The support service will be similar in nature to an Employee Support Service (ESS) or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and will also provide the opportunity for witnesses and complainants involved in FTP cases to talk about how they are feeling and occasionally progress to undertaking counselling or support sessions. It will be different however to other services as those providing support will have information about the FTP and Inquiry Processes and will have a greater understanding of the implications of being the subject of a complaint to the NMBI.
