Work Detail
Msr-Sfr - Procurement Of Power Special Check Out Equipment (Scoe) The Mars Sample Return Programme Is A Response To The Long-Running Scientific Objective To Better Understand The Past History Of Mars And Characterise Its Current Environment. By Acquiring And Returning To Earth A Rigorously Documented Set Of Mars Soil Samples, Scientists Will Have The Possibility To Perform Extensive And Accurate Analyses, Having Access To The Full Breadth And Depth Of Scientific Instruments Available In Terrestrial Laboratories. The Scientific Analysis Of These Returned Samples Will Enable Breakthrough Advances In: 1- The Search For Ancient And/Or Extant Life On Mars; 2- The Understanding The Origin And Evolution Of Mars As A Geological System; 3- The Understanding The Processes And History Of Climate On Mars 4- Preparing For Future Human Exploration Of Mars. The Msr Architecture Involves Four Campaign Elements: Three Flight Elements And One Ground Element (Operation Control Centre). Each Campaign Element Consists Of One Or More Functional Elements. The Three Flight Elements Are: 1- A Sample Caching Rover Mission, Developed By Nasa/Jpl, And Currently Already Successfully Operating On Mars; 2- A Sample Retrieval Lander (Srl) Mission, Consisting Of A Nasa/Jpl Developed Lander Including A Mars Ascent Vehicle (Mav) As Well As The Esa Provided Sample Transfer Arm (Sta) And Sample Fetch Rover (Sfr); 3- And The Esa Provided Earth Return Orbiter (Ero) Mission. Sfr Is Scheduled To Be Launched On-Board The Nasa’S Sample Return Lander. Following A Successful Landing, The Rover Will Deploy And Egress From The Platform And Traverse To The Depot In Which The Mars2020 Rover Will Have Stored The Sample Tubes Containing Soil And Rock Samples. Airbus Defence And Space Ltd Will Be Acting As Prime Contractor To The European Space Agency To Perform The Msr-Sfr Phase B2cde1, Together With Its Subcontractors. As Part Of This Contract (Phase B2 Atp), Airbus Defence And Space Ltd Will Release An Invitation To Tender (Itt) Looking For A Supplier Of The Rover Power Special Check Out Equipment (Scoe). The Power Scoe Will Be Used To Support Two Main Functions During The Rover Test Campaign: • Specific Power System Test Activities • Power Support To The Rover Vehicle During Subsystem And System Tests Activities. In Order To Support These Functions, The Power Scoe Will Provide The Following Power Inputs To The Integrated Avionics Box Subsystem (Iabs) Power Control And Distribution Electronics (Pcde): • Power Across The Umbilical Interfaces, Which Simulates The Power From The Srl During Cruise Phase. • Power Across Solar Array Subsystem (Solas) Interfaces Which Simulates The Power Generated By The Solar Arrays. • Power Via The Battery Simulator Inside The Battery Support Rack, Which Simulates The Power From The Battery. The Power Scoe Is Not Used To Provide Power For Any Tests Where Power Is Generated By Real Solar Arrays. The Power Scoe May Be Used To Provide Power For Tests With The Real Battery, In Which Case The Battery Simulator Is Not Utilised. In Addition To Providing The Power Sources Listed Above, The Power Scoe Also Provides The Following: • Test Loads For Loading The Power Outputs From The Pcde, Which Are Used For Specific Power Subsystem Tests. • Battery Offline Support (Charging/Discharging) And A Battery Connect Function (Safety Relay Switch) Which Can Be Used To Connect/Disconnect The Real Battery For Test Purposes. • The Umbilical Rack Provides The Interface For The Umbilical Data Links To The Rover Model Under Test. This Implies That The Tm/Tc Bypass From The Tm/Tc Scoe To The Obc Is Routed Via The Power Scoe Umbilical Rack. Read Less
