Ifad Loan Number: Loan No.2000001126, Grant No.200000112700, Gef Grant 200000158500 The Approximate Population Of The Thirty-Seven Chiefdoms Where The Smlp Support Concentrates Is 96,000 In 16,000 Households. The Following Estimates Are Made Of The Sub-Categories: Better-Off Accounting For Approximately 5% Of The Population (4,800 In 800 Households) Middle Wealth Economically Active Smallholder Households, Accounting For 35% Of The Population (33,600 In 5,600 Households); Economically Active Poor Smallholder Households Who Have Potential To Produce Marketable Surplus, Accounting For 50% Of The Population (48,000 In 8,000 Households); Food Deficit Poor Smallholder Households Unlikely To Produce Surplus In The Foreseeable Future, Accounting For 10% Of The Households (9,600 In 1,600 Households). The Project Looks Forward To Directly Affect Food Security And Incomes Of (57,600) People, Of Which 48,000 Classify As Poor. To This End, The Project Will Help Establish Better Resource Utilization In Thirtyseven Chiefdoms; Provide Water To 120 Hectares Of Intensively Cultivated Land And Protect 200 Hectares For Commercial Production Of Fruit And Fodder Crops; And Engage 5,000 Smallholders In Supply Of National Commodity Markets.
