Bids Are Invited For Birkenhead Lake Estates Tu 1-2-3 Operational Fuel Management Treatment

Through Funding From The Clwrr Program And Bc Wildfire Service, The Sea To Sky Natural Resource District Are Seeking Qualified Contractors To Complete A Wildfire Risk Reduciton Treatment Adjacent To The Birkenhead Lake Estates (The Project). All Field Marking Has Been Completed, And The Treatment May Commence After The Associated Contract Is Signed And Necessary Cutting Authority Has Been Issued.The Project Is Designed To Reduce Wildfire Risk To The Birkenhead Lake Estates Community And Surrounding Values By Modifying Hazardous Forest Fuels And Improving The Resilience Of The Adjacent Forest Ecosystem. The Treatment Area Is Situated In Proximity To Residential Properties, Transportation Corridors, Recreational Values, And Environmentally Sensitive Areas, Making Proactive Fuel Management An Important Component Of Community Wildfire Risk Reduction.The Project Will Focus On Reducing Surface And Ladder Fuels That Could Contribute To High-Intensity Wildfire Behaviour. Planned Treatments Include Thinning From Below (Tfb), Pruning (Prn), Wildlife Tree And Snag Retention Where Appropriate, Management Of Coarse Woody Debris, And Pile Burning (Pb) Of Treatment Residues. These Activities Are Intended To Decrease Potential Fire Intensity, Increase Firefighter Access And Effectiveness, And Improve The Likelihood Of Successful Wildfire Suppression While Maintaining Important Ecological Values.The Treatment Area Has Been Refined Since The Original Fuel Management Prescription And Now Consists Of Five Treatment Polygons Totaling Approximately 21.9 Hectares Gross (21.8 Hectares Net). The Revised Treatment Units Include Tu 1 (0.7 Ha), Tu 2A (1.2 Ha), Tu 2B (0.2 Ha), Tu 2C (6.2 Ha), And Tu 3 (13.6 Ha). These Revised Treatment Areas Replace The Larger Treatment Area Identified In Earlier Planning Documents.
