The Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center (Hit) (Https://Www.Klinikum.Uni-Heidelberg.De/Interdisciplinaere-Zentren/Heidelberger-Ionenstrahl-Therapiezentrum-Hit/) Has Been Treating Around 750 Cancer Patients Per Year Using Radiation With Protons, Helium Ions And Carbon Ions Since 2009. The Roll-Out Of Extensive Modernization Measures Is Planned For The Years From 2029, As Some Important Systems Are To Be Replaced. Specifically, These Are: • The Real-Time Control Of The Irradiation And Movements, • The Clinical Control Console For Carrying Out The Therapy Process And Its Documentation, • The Positioning System And • The Imaging System(S). The Developments And Preparations For This Were Started In Advance Because The Conversion Phase, During Which No Patients Can Be Treated, Must Be Kept As Short As Possible. For This Reason, The Aim Is To Adopt The Concepts Of The Existing System In Order To Minimize Technology And Scheduling Risks In The Project. This Announcement Aims To Identify Interested Parties Who Can Provide Real-Time Control Of Irradiation And Movements Under The Framework Conditions Mentioned Below, In Particular Taking Into Account The Existing System For The New System (Expression Of Interest Procedure In Accordance With Section 38 Para. 4 Vgv). Once Expressions Of Interest Have Been Received, The Procurement Will Be Carried Out As A Negotiated Procedure Without A Separate Contract Announcement (Section 38 Para. 4 No. 2 Vgv). Main Tasks Within The Order: 1. Modernization Of The Therapy Control System In The Existing System (Siemens Pt Iontris) The Therapy Control System Should Fulfill The Following Main Tasks A. Central Safety And Beam Management Functions The Central Safety System Monitors The Conditions Of The Treatment Rooms In A Safety-Oriented Manner Before A Beam Request Can Be Made And During Irradiation. The Beam Is Allocated To The Individual Irradiation Rooms Using A Reservation List. B. Sequence Control Of The Irradiation The Irradiation Takes Place In Grid Points, With Each Grid Point Only Lasting A Few Milliseconds. Location And Dose Are Measured By Beam Monitors (See Below), Which In The Case Of The Dose Can Be Read Out Approximately Every Microsecond. C. Hardware-Side Motion Control The Positioning Of The Patient, The Imaging Devices, Beam Modification Filters And, If Necessary, Other Components Should Be Controlled By A Common System For Each Room. Collision Avoidance, Condition Monitoring And A Uniform Display Must Be Implemented. This Functionality Is Available In The Existing System; For Cost And Time Reasons, It Should Be Built On The Existing System As Much As Possible.
