Work Detail
Tenders are invited for Distributed Array End-to-End Payload System Architectures for PNT - EXPRO+. Open Date: 14/09/2026 17:12 CET Closing Date: 27/10/2026 13:00 CET Objective: To develop innovative end-to-end payload system architectures, techniques and algorithms enabling large distributed arrays for PNT based on high-gain beamforming. Description: Large arrays of antennas and distributed arrays of antennas are being considered for the generation of very high-gain beamforming. In this case, the main objective is to achieve a high received power by the ground user receivers, such that high data rates can be supported per user. Large and distributed arrays can be considered for PNT, both for Earth and Spaced Service Volume users and applications. One clear expected advantage would be to achieve much larger received power on the user receivers than with current GNSS systems. This can be of interest in particular in harsh propagation conditions, including the presence of interference and jamming, or to reach very far-away space users/assets. The objective of this activity is to design techniques and algorithms to enable large distributed array satellite and payload (PL) system architectures/configurations for PNT. The focus will be on the generation of very high-gain beamforming, while ensuring the transmission of high-accuracy signals-in-space, even when wide-band signals are used. Both the transmission in L-band (reference) and alternative bands (e.g., S and Cbands) will be addressed. Additionally, the activity will investigate innovative ideas for the exploitation of the large distributedarray architecture for PNT purposes, leveraging concepts and operational modes exploited in other space applications like Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems. The activity encompasses the following tasks: - Definition and design of innovative techniques and algorithms in the areas identified above; - Implementation of the required tools/software enabling the assessment of the proposed techniques and algorithms; - Assessment/test of the different techniques and algorithms in simulated conditions; - Identification of themost promising techniques/algorithms based on the results obtained; - Definition of the proposed the way-forward to further matureeach of the promising techniques/algorithms identified. Deliverables: Report, Software Procurement Policy: C(2) = Activities in open competition, where a significant participation of non-LSI is requested.
