The Ministry Of The Interior Has Started Preparations For The Acquisition Of Aerial Surveillance Of Forest Fires In Northern Finland On Three Different Flight Routes. According To Section 31 Of The Rescue Act (379/2011), The Ministry Of The Interior Must Organize Effective Forest Fire Surveillance In A Sparsely Populated Region If The Danger Of A Forest Fire Is Obvious. The Service Providers Selected In The Upcoming Tender Will Produce Surveillance Flights For Forest Fires On Behalf Of The Ministry Of The Interior. Surveillance Will Be Produced With Airplanes And Trained Personnel On Pre-Planned Routes Based On The Forest Fire Index Of The Finnish Meteorological Institute Or At The Request Of The Areas Rescue Authority. Aerial Surveillance Of Forest Fires (Later Aerial Activity) Is Regular Surveillance Carried Out By Airplanes To Detect Wildfires. Spotting Aims To Prevent Wildfires From Spreading To A Large Extent By Detecting Them In Time. Wildfires Are Classified As E.G. Forest Fires, Grass Fires And Fires In Peat Production Areas. The Flights Are Carried Out In Accordance With Traficoms National Aviation Regulations (E.G. Ops M1-34) And The Instructions Of The Ministry Of The Interior.
