Work Detail
Vegetation Management - William A. Switzer Provincial Park, Gregg Lake Subdivision . Project Background: The Proposed Vegetation Management Project Is Focused On Fuel Load Reduction Through Vegetation Management Of Primarily Mixed Wood Undergrowth. Project Objective: Along The Single Egress Route For Gregg Lake Subdivision, Reduce Overall Surface And Ladder Fuel Loading To Decrease The Intensity, Rate Of Spread And Potential For Crown Fire Of Any Wildfire Occurring In The Identified Area Of The Park. The Treatment Is Designed To Reduce Potential Fire Behavior And Increase The Likelihood Of Safe Evacuation Of The Gregg Lake Subdivision In The Event Of A Wildfire Emergency. The Treated Area Along The Road Will Also Increase Suppression Opportunities In A Forested Area Of The Park Directly Adjacent To Homes And Properties. The Treatment Will Address Standing Dead Conifer, Which In Addition To Contributing To Fuel Loading, Have The Potential To Fall Across And Obstruct The Roadway. The Project Is Most Suited To Small, Specialized Equipment (I.E., Narrow-Tracked Feller-Bunchers/Skid Steers) And Hand-Thinning And Pruning (Utilizing Chainsaws, Brush Saws, Poles Saws, Etc.).
