Notice Is Hereby Given By The Corporation Of The District Of North Cowichan (Dnc) Of Its Intent To Directly Award Crofton Lake Dam Geotechnical Investigation Work Plan To Thurber Engineering Limited. The Crofton Lake Dam Consists Of A Main Dam And A “Saddle” Dam Originally Constructed In The 1950’S Based On An Engineered Design For Earth Dams. The Main Dam Is About 220 Metres Long And The Saddle Dam Is About 150 Metres Long. The Dams Range From About 1.5 Metres To About 5 Metres In Height. It’S Probable That Much Of The Saddle Dam Predates The 1950’S. Together, The Dams Allow Water Retention Over A 25-Hectare Area Recognized As Crofton Lake. The Dams Have Failure Consequence Classifications Of “High”. The Site Is Located Within A Forested Area About 1 Kilometer Away From Residences Along A Rough Resource Road That Is Not Open To Vehicle Traffic But Is To Pedestrians, Cyclists And Horseback.A Dam Safety Review Has Recommended A Comprehensive Site Investigation Of The Materials Used In Construction To Assist With Improving Predictions Of Dam Breach, Seismic Stability, Settlement And Expectations For Raising The Dams To Suit An Inundation Study And Safety Review Requirements.The Work Plan Requires An Invasive Investigation Plan With An Interim Dam Safety Risk Management Plan, Permitting, And Includes Utility Locates, Review Of Historical Documents, Drilling Through The Existing Dam.Please See Https://Northcowichan.Bonfirehub.Ca/Portal/ For Official Posting.
