Expression of Interest for Mexico Sargassum Characterization Study Description: To conduct a rigorous toxicological and environmental study to determine the regulatory classification of Sargassum collected and stored by Carbonwave in Mexico, assess its contamination potential (at different stages of decomposition), and support the identification of appropriate handling, treatment, and disposal options. The study will be conducted in accordance with applicable Mexican regulations, Good International Industry Practice (GIIP), IFC Performance Standards, and the World Bank Group Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Guidelines. The finding will inform Carbonwaves comprehensive Waste Management Plan defining appropriate management procedures and alternatives for the manufacturing process and disposal while generating a public-good technical reference to inform IFCs broader sargassum investment portfolio across LAC countries.
