Work Detail
Microscopes – Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope. The Life Sciences, Especially The Plant Sciences In The Department Of Biology At Fau, Have A Pronounced Cell Biology Research Focus. Membrane Biology Is A Central Topic At The Chair Of Molecular Plant Physiology. Mainly Membrane-Localized Receptors, Membrane Toxins, Plasmodesmata, Sugar Transporters And Calcium Channels Are Examined. Of Particular Interest Are The High-Resolution Subcellular Localization, The Molecular Function, The Dynamics Of Protein Distribution And Possible Complex Formation With Other Proteins. The System To Be Procured Should Primarily Be Used To Process Physiological And Cell Biological Questions On Non-Transparent Preparations. The Majority Of The Samples Consist Of Complex Living Plant Tissues That Express Several Fluorophores Or Are Loaded With Different Mobile Fluorescent Dyes. Since Plants Also Contain Various Autofluorescent Substances Such As Chlorophyll Or Lignin, A System Is Needed That Can Detect Multiple Emissions Simultaneously And Has High Sensitivity With The Best Possible Signal-To-Noise Ratio Even In Deeper Tissue Layers. In Addition, The Cell Biology Questions Require High Scanning Speeds As Well As Modules For Very High-Resolution, Linear Imaging. The Aim Is To Obtain Quantifiable Information About The Internal Structures Of Organelles As Well As About Processes In And On The Plasma Membrane, For Example On The Organization And Dynamics Of Proteins Such As Membrane Toxins Or Receptor Proteins In Complexes And Membrane Domains.
