Tenders are invited for Regional Support Program in Media Viability for PIM. Closing Date: Wednesday, 15. Jul 2026 Building on its previous work in Tunisia and Lebanon, DW Akademie is implementing a regional support program to strengthen the economic sustainability of selected public-interest media (PIM) outlets in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), this regional program responds to the ongoing crisis facing journalism in the Middle East. It aims to safeguard and enhance the quality of public-interest media that counter disinformation, promote fact-based public discourse, and create inclusive spaces for dialogue. Within this program, DW Akademie seeks to strengthen the economic viability and resilience of PIMs through a collaborative support model. Selected media organizations undergo a needs assessment to help them identify the area that calls for tailored support. They undergo a three-month support program with inputs, trainings and mentoring by selected experts to help strengthen their media viability. The media outlets can choose two different support tracks: finance and business support, audience and business development, finance and business operations or AI-supported newsroom optimization. Acceleration tracks: Journalistic and content quality including trauma-informed journalism Audience and business development Organizational development AI-supported newsroom optimization Support Provided An initial needs assessment of the current state of the media organization Collaborative design sessions, the focus areas to work on are agreed upon A roadmap is developed, including a set of targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) to be achieved The acceleration phase begins according to the selected tracks The organisation receives a total of about 20 days of tailored support (training, coaching and individual follow-up) Financial support to help reach milestones and produce deliverables (mini-grant in 2 payments) Eligibility Criteria Eligible applicants must be public interest media organizations (PIMs) that meet the following criteria: Be an established media platform based in one of the target countries, with a team of dedicated core staff; Produce regular, reliable, high-quality journalism that serves the public interest at hyperlocal, local, or regional levels; Demonstrate editorial independence and transparency in governance, finances, and editorial processes; Have a clear mission, vision, Code of conduct and business model, and show adaptability to current challenges and innovations in the media landscape; Be community-oriented and committed to including underserved or marginalized voices in public discourse; Show interest in and prior engagement with collaborative local or regional journalistic networks; Demonstrate strong journalistic and technical expertise; Commit to active participation in the support program by appointing a dedicated program coordinator How to apply Application process To apply, interested public interest media need to fill the form, submit an abstract highlighting the problem that they are facing within their organization, and explain their need in terms of organizational development and economic viability. They need to demonstrate which support tracks can help them solve this issue and which kind of support they would need.
