Fe 77.0701/2024 - “Competition For Space Between Public Transport And Cycling On Main Roads” All Modes Of Motorized And Non-Motorized Transport (Motor Vehicles, Public Transport, Cycling And Pedestrian Traffic) Are Regularly Concentrated On The Main Axes Of Inner-City Road Networks. In Order To Ensure Road Safety, Especially For Cyclists, And To Speed Up Bus Traffic (Regular, School And Disabled Traffic), Some Road Traffic Authorities Have Set Up Lanes That Are Shared By Buses And Cyclists. Both Modes Systematically Compete With Each Other Over The Course Of The Route And Have Different Speed Profiles. With Regard To The Implementation Options, In Addition To The Achievable Width Dimensions When Dividing The Road Space, The Traffic Regulations Also Play An Important Role - Especially With Regard To Overtaking Cyclists By Buses. Given The Limited Road Space, It Must Be Clarified Under Which Operating Conditions The Combined Routing Of Buses And Bicycle Traffic On A Shared Lane Is Advantageous For Both Traffic Modes And Which Cross-Sectional Divisions Are Suitable For This. At The Same Time, It Is Important To Define The Conditions Under Which Joint Management Should Be Avoided And Separate Solutions Should Be Sought Instead. The Aim Of This Research Project Is To Derive Application Criteria And Recommendations For The Cross-Sectional Design Of Lanes Used Jointly By Buses And Cyclists. In Order To Distinguish Between Separate Systems For Both Modes, The Cross Sections Should Be Determined Depending On The Existing Width Dimensions And The Intended Intensity Of Use.
