Research And Development Services And Related Consultancy Services – Future Challenges And Goals In Rural Road Design. The Following Questions Should Be Examined In Order To Update The Guidelines For The Construction Of Country Roads (Ral). The Manual For Assessing The Traffic Safety Of Roads, Part Of Rural Roads (Hvs-Ls) Contains A Procedure For Assessing The Traffic Safety Level Of Road Traffic Systems. The Ral Design Recommendations Have Not Yet Been Linked To The Hvs-Ls Assessments. The Ral Lists Traffic Quality And Safety As Test Criteria For The Construction Of Identical Intersections. There Is Still A Lack Of Concrete Parameters To Delimit The Construction Of Roundabouts. The Ral Recommends 2 To 4 Radius Ranges For Roads In Design Classes (Ekl). In The Future, The Upper Limit Of The Recommended Radius Range For The Ekl 2 Will Be Deleted. In Addition, Straight Lines Are Not Rated As Well, But They Can Be Used Up To A Length Of 1,500 M. This Is Contrary To A Reasonable Level Of Speed. It Must Be Checked Whether And To What Extent The Contents Of The Hvs Or Its Fundamentals As Well As Other Relevant Research Results (Particularly From The Area Of ​​Human Factors) Can Be Appropriately Integrated Into The Rals Design Recommendations And, If Necessary, Possible Changes Should Also Be Identified On The Basis Of Empirical Surveys. According To The Ral, The Ekl Of A Road Is Determined By The Connection Function Level And The Dtv. The Current Procedure For Upgrading And Downgrading Must Be Reviewed And Recommendations For An Update Drawn Up Accordingly. The Aim Is To Create Recommendations For Updating The Ral With The Help Of A Comparison With New Regulations And Current Research Results, As Well As Additional Empirical Studies.
