Its specific objectives are: i) To guide policymakers in selecting the most appropriate technical solutions, taking into account operation, maintenance, financing, as well as the management and recovery of by-products; ii) To identify a sludge treatment value chain that is financially viable, sustainable in terms of strengthening stakeholders capacities, and suited to the complementarity between centralized and on-site sanitation systems; iii) To reduce the carbon footprint of sanitation projects by proposing an efficient organization of the sludge and fecal sludge management chain that optimizes the recovery of by-products using the selected technologies. The Project is structured into two (02) components: (A) Component A: Pre-feasibility studies for the management of the service chain for sludge generated from drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, and fecal sludge This component aims to assess, plan, and design sustainable technical, economic, and environmental solutions for managing sludge from drinking water treatment plants (drinking water treatment sludge), wastewater treatment plants (wastewater sludge), as well as fecal sludge from on-site sanitation systems (latrines, septic tanks, etc.). It prepares the groundwork for the implementation of efficient infrastructure or services while minimizing environmental impacts and maximizing sludge recovery. This component also includes two sub-components: Recruitment of a consulting firm to carry out the studies; Execution of the consulting firms services.
