Work Detail
Tenders are invited for DIRECT-TO-DEVICE MULTIBAND ACTIVE ANTENNA IN FREQUENCY RANGE 1 (FR 1) (ARTES 4.0 SPL 5G/6G 5B.259) - EXPRO+ Tender Action Number: 1-13549 Activity Number: 1000045341 Clarification Request Deadline 04/09/2026 13:00 CET Closing Date Extension Request Deadline 04/09/2026 13:00 CET Announcement Date 22/05/2026 Last Update On 25/06/2026 10:16 CET Update Reason Tender Action Issued Objective: The objective of the activity is to design, manufacture, and test a Server in Space (SiS) module for regenerative processors in satellite communication systems, enabling efficient on-board data processing and offering advanced autonomy applications andemergency management services.Targeted Improvements: Enabling application layer processing on-board for Servers in Space to offer advanced autonomy applications and emergency management services.Description: It is expected that satellites will have a larger percentage of regenerative processing, which opens the door to application layer processing on-board of satellites. The main challenge to be addressed is the availability of a Server in Space (SiS) with application layer processing, with technical challenges to be addressed in terms of power consumption, radiation hardening of ground-based data centre technology, and maturity of application layersoftware for embedded devices. Additionally, aspects of modularityand scalability for larger space datacentres shall be considered. Recent advancements of cloud providers in embedded processors, as well as technical developments in efficient FPGAs and computational memories, allow to link this concept to 5G/6G Non-Terrestrial-Networks (NTN) and Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity, enabling thesatellite to act as a server in space. By integrating the application layer on the satellite, cloud services, currently only provided on ground, could be made available to users innatural disaster situations or with special requirements that cannot use the regular network, e.g. very stringent latency needs like Internet-of-Things (IoT) or autonomous driving. This activity will design and develop a cloud computing module, integrate it with the regenerative processor, and test it to ensure its efficiency and reliability inthe relevant environment. Focus shall be on the interfaces between the payload and components in the module, including also technologies used on ground, due to the high data rates required. A fully functional Server in Space (SiS) module engineering module, capableof efficient on-board data processing and data storage, shall be designed, developed and tested. The SiS module shall demonstrateits capability to be integrated in future satcom digital processors and to be scaled to large data centres in space.
