Tenders are invited for Development of E-/W-Band Slow Wave Structure Bread Boards for High Power TWTS Expro+. Objective: To develop a E-/W-band traveling wave tube slow-wave structure breadboard capable of delivering 100 W of output power. Description: The millimetre wave domain is also known as the extremely high-frequency (EHF) spectrum ranges from 30 to 300 GHz. Early works on atmospheric propagation in EHF evidenced encouraging future usage for satellite communications. The allocated W-band for satellite services (71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz) potentially provides a favourable attenuation window due to low oxygen absorption. The exploitation of W-band may offer broad bandwidths for high data rate information transfer. Hence the development of the high power amplifiers is a critical building block that acts as an enabler to exploit this frequency band for satellite telecommunications. Currently, solid state power amplifiers cover this frequency band, but with output powers significantly lower than 100 W and very low efficiency. A traveling wave tube amplifier (TWTA) solution offers better performance in terms of output power and efficiency. This activity aims at developing a traveling wave tube slow-wave structure in W-band, capable of delivering 100 W of output power. As a result of the validation of this key building block, European industry will gain crucial knowledge and pass a first important milestoneon their way to design and manufacture full TWTs in this frequency band. At present, no W-band space TWTs are available in Europe. This activity encompasses the following tasks: - Design a traveling wave tube slow-wave structure in W-band, capable of delivering 100 W of output power - Manufacturing of a breadboard - Testing and validation of a breadboard Deliverables: Breadboard, Report.
