Expression of Interest for Scoping & Support for New Green Building Market Segments. Publication Date: 06/20/2026 12:00 AM EDT EOI Deadline: 06/30/2026 11:59 PM EDT Description: The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is an investor and advisor supporting sustainable economic growth in developing countries by making private sector investments, mobilizing capital in the international financial markets, and providing advisory services to businesses and governments. In partnership with the government of Germany and stakeholders at a national level, IFC is leading implementation of the Scaling Up Climate Finance through Greening the Financial Sector program also known as the 30 by 30 Zero Program. The 30 by 30 Zero Program aims to harness the financial sector in targeted countries to considerably scale up private sector financing for climate mitigation and adaptation projects in line with their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) targets. The Program is currently being implemented in Egypt, Mexico, the Philippines and South Africa, from 2021 to 2027. One of IFCs strategic priorities in South Africa is to support the governments efforts to foster low-carbon economic growth and resilience. Buildings have been identified as a key climate intervention as globally as they consume 33% of energy produced, 40% of total water consumption and produce 18% of greenhouse gases (GHG). Among the 30 by 30 Zero Programs activities in South Africa, it supports financial institutions with training and skills development for staff and client value chain beneficiaries in the financing of residential property, renewable energy, energy efficiency and resource efficiency. The Program utilizes the Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) Green Building Certification, which was designed and incubated under a global initiative by IFC that includes national green building codes and related certification tools/programs. The Program also supports the delivery of IFCs partnership with the United Kingdom for the Market Accelerator for Green Construction Program (MAGC) in South Africa, which contributes to meeting national targets for GHG emission reductions through the promotion of certified green buildings. This may include the EDGE green building certification of existing individual homes that are currently mortgage financed by the client. This is contingent upon alignment of the timing and operational framework of an enabling EDGE protocol which is currently under development.
