The Emscher-Mündung Sewage Treatment Plant (Klem), Operated By The Emschergenossenschaft And Lippeverband (Eglv), Cleans The Wastewater Of A Sub-Catchment Area Around The Former Emscher Surface Canal. Today The Sewage Treatment Plant (Ka) Is Fed Via A Sewer With Upstream Pumping Stations. It Purifies The Wastewater Of Around 1,000,000 Residents, Making It One Of The Largest Plants In North Rhine-Westphalia. The Wastewater To Be Cleaned Consists Of Both Domestic Wastewater And Industrial Wastewater From The Mining-Dominated Ruhr Area. The Emschergenossenschaft Is Planning To Completely Rebuild The Sludge Treatment Plant At The Emscher-Mündung Sewage Treatment Plant, Which Has Been In Operation For 50 Years, As Well As The Renovation Of The Three Digestion Tanks And Their Conversion To Series Operation. The Mouth Profile Canal That Now Carries Waste Water Will Be Converted Into A Factory Pipeline Between The Sludge Treatment And The Inlet And A Branch Towards Digestion Will Be Added. Furthermore, The Pumping Station For Pumping The Digested Sludge Towards Ka Bottrop Will Also Be Rebuilt, From Where Two New Pressure Pipes (0.65 Km Each) Will Be Connected To The Existing Pressure Pipes To The Connection Point (Pipe Bridge).
