Request for proposals for Open Contract Editors Sourcing for WRI Research and Communications Content editors, proofreaders, and communications content specialists to support its research publications and communications materials under a two-year open contract framework Details: Open Contract Editors Sourcing Request for Proposals (RFP) Event ID 1156497 Event Type Request for Proposal (RFP) Published Date 4/7/2026 RSVP Date Questions Deadline Status Open Submission deadline 6/7/2026 Description SUMMARY OF PROCUREMENT WRI intends to award a Fixed Price type contract for editors who have strong research literacy and share our mission, to ensure WRI research is clearly delivered and effectively distributed, contributing to meaningful dialogue and decision-making in sustainable development.Vendors who are successfully onboarded will receive a two-year open contract, granting the qualification to collaborate with WRI and undertake relevant service requests on an oncall basis. WRIs transformative ideas protect the earth and promote development because sustainability is essential to meeting human needs and fulfilling human aspirations in the future. SCOPE OF WORK, OUTPUTS/DELIVERABLES, QUALIFICATIONS 1. Substantive Editor (Chinese) Provide high-quality substantive editing and writing support to enhance professionalism, readability, and impact of knowledge products and communications materials. Scope of Work: In-depth Editing of Knowledge Products Based on peer review comments and suggestions of WRI knowledge products, provide specific recommendations for the general logical framework of the paper, storyline of the paragraphs, and grammar and syntax of the sentences; work with authors to jointly undertake substantive revisions to the content, thereby enhancing the accuracy, rigor and readability of the text. Drawing on the editors own domain knowledge and professional experience, assist authors in identifying a writing style and mode of expression that is more readily accepted by the target audience, and help authors to more accurately distil the assertions of their research findings. Assist the authors team in ensuring a consistent writing style throughout the article. Refinement of Communications Products and Key Documents Provide substantive editing for institutional communications products such as op-eds and column articles to ensure clear structure, well-supported arguments, and concise language. Assist in refining speeches for key events, enhancing the emotional appeal and convincingness of the narrative. WRI Staff Capacity Building Support Design and deliver targeted writing training on CN academic publications for WRI researchers to improve the teams overall writing skills. Localize WRI English writing courses, make them better adapt to Chinese context and practical needs. Qualifications: Education:Masters degree or higher. Experience in publishing, peer review, and editing of academic publications in WRIs research areas (including but not limited to climate, energy, cities, mobility, food and natural resources, and sustainable investment and finance). Work Experience:At least five years of experience in editorial or publishing roles in academic publishing house, think tanks, research institutions, or professional media. Scientific writing and editing skills: Candidates should demonstrate the ability to write or edit academic papers and must provide representative samples of peer-reviewed scientific papers, books, editorial commentaries, or insight articles. Communication Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Chinese and English. Ability to express ideas clearly, listen actively, communicate with empathy, and build effective, trust-based working relationships with researchers. Professionalism:Meticulous, committed to excellence, and possessing strong teamwork and project management skills. Preferred Qualifications:Experience in academic journal editing; experience serving as a reviewer for academic journals; familiarity with Editorial Manager or similar peer review systems; awareness of using AI tools in writing and editing with ethical cautious; experience in cross-cultural collaboration. 2. Academic Publications Proofreader (Copy Editor) in Chinese Provide professional proofreading services for WRI knowledge products to comprehensively enhance linguistic accuracy, consistency, and professionalism. Scope of Work: Basic Language Proofreading:Verify and correct the use of Chinese characters and punctuation in manuscripts to ensure compliance with modern Chinese usage norms, Chinese typesetting conventions, and relevant national standards. Grammar and Logic Review:Identify and correct grammatical, syntactic, and logical errors in the text. Verification of Proper Nouns:Check proper nouns related to history, geography, policy, and institutions to ensure accuracy and consistency. Figure and Chart Verification:Check the formatting of figure titles, legends, units, sources, and overall presentation in accordance with the WRI Knowledge Product Guide. Formatting Consistency:Ensure consistency in text formatting throughout the manuscript, including but not limited to headings, subheadings, appendices, endnotes, and page numbers, following the style guide. Citation Proofreading: Verify each entry in the bibliography against original sources to ensure accuracy of authors, titles, publication years, sources, page numbers, etc. Standardize citation formats throughout the manuscript in accordance with the national standardInformation and Documentation Rules for Bibliographic References(GB/T 77142015) and other relevant citation styles. Assist researchers in checking the correspondence between in-text citations and the bibliography, identifying and correcting missing, redundant, or erroneous references. Qualifications: Language Skills:Strong command of Chinese and English; proficiency in Chinese language usage norms, punctuation rules, and common grammatical structures; ability to identify various types of language errors with precision. Professional Standards:Familiarity with national language standards and academic publishing norms; ability to strictly adhere to and flexibly apply institutional style guides; deep understanding and practical application of GB/T 77142015 and other common citation styles, including handling mixed Chinese-English citations and various document types; familiarity with literature search and review methods, enabling quick location and verification of original sources; ability to identify common citation errors. Knowledge Base:Solid general education foundation; familiarity with common knowledge in Chinese and foreign history, geography, politics, and related fields; ability to quickly assess the accuracy of proper nouns. Professionalism:Meticulous, patient, and responsible; ability to complete high-volume proofreading tasks with quality; good communication skills to collaborate closely with researchers on citation-related issues. Preferred Qualifications:Experience in academic journal proofreading or editing; proficiency in Zotero or other reference management tools; in-depth understanding of WRIs research areas (including but not limited to climate, energy, cities, transport, food and natural resources, and sustainable investment and finance); ability to proofread in both Chinese and English. 3. Communications Products Content Editor (Chinese) Provide professional language polishing services for WRI communications products (such as insights, project introductions, press releases, etc.) to enhance wording quality while maintaining rigor, ensuring fluency, conciseness, and consistency. Scope of Work: Content Editing Language Optimization:Revise awkward, lengthy, poorly structured, or overly literal translations to make expressions more fluent and natural in Chinese. Logical Coherence:Examine logical connections between paragraphs and sentences; add transitional phrases or adjust sentence order as needed to improve overall coherence and readability. Style Consistency:Ensure consistent use of terminology, expression styles, and language tone throughout the manuscript, aligning with WRI knowledge product or communications style guides. Content Planning Contribute topic ideas for specific communications projects based on WRIs research areas and hot issues. Assist in turning research findings into communications content tailored to different audiences (e.g., public, industry professionals, policymakers) to enhance readability and impact. Provide targeted content and format recommendations based on communication channels (e.g., official website, social media, media partnerships). Capacity Building Design and deliver targeted writing training (in Chinese) for communications content for WRIs communications team and researchers to improve overall writing quality. Topics may include simplifying scientific content for broader audiences, identifying and revising translations, etc. Summarize common writing issues and optimization cases to support the development of communications writing guidelines and internal reference materials. Qualifications: Language Skills:Strong command of modern Chinese; sensitivity to language use; ability to accurately identify and refine various expression issues.
