A Wetland Site Database Listing 642 Potential Wetland Sites Has Been Compiled Through A Desktop Survey For County Meath, Completed In 2025. The Boundaries Of These Wetland Sites Have Been Mapped, Compiled From Published Reports, Existing Gis Datasets, Aerial Photography, Sub Soil Data And Topographic Data Of The County. This Dataset Provides A Useful Tool For Future Biodiversity And Natural Heritage Conservation Planning In The County And Allows For The Design Of Targeted Wetland Field Surveys. Of The 642 Potential Wetland Sites Identified In Meath, 586 Sites Lie Outside Areas Designated For Nature Conservation. A Significant Proportion Of These Undesignated Sites, Most Of Which Have Not Been Subject To Ecological Survey, Are Likely To Support Habitats And Species Of Conservation Importance.
