Tenders Are Invited For Strickeen Mountain Boardwalk Installation And Stone Pitching

South Kerry Development Partnership (Skdp), In Conjunction With The Macgillycuddy Reeks Mountain Access Forum, Invites Tenders For Upland Trail Improvement Works On Strickeen Mountain, Consisting Of: 1. Construction Of Approximately 230 Metres Of Composite Boardwalk; And 2. Construction Of Approximately 220 Metres Of Stone-Pitched Upland Path. The Purpose Of The Works Is To Provide A Safe, Durable, And Sustainable Walking Route While Protecting Sensitive Upland Bog And Wet And Dry Heath Habitat From Further Erosion, Trampling, And Water Damage. The Boardwalk Section Is Intended For Flatter-Gradient, Wetter Ground Conditions, While The Stone-Pitched Sections, Where Required Will Stabilise Steep And Heavily Eroded Terrain Approaching The Summit Where A Boardwalk Is Not Suitable Due To Gradient. All Works Are To Be Completed Using Low-Impact, Hand-Built Construction Methods Appropriate To A Remote And Environmentally Sensitive Upland Environment. Works Should Be Completed No Later Than 31St Of March 2027.
