Island Ehs Was Engaged By School District #62 – Sooke To Carry Out A Limited Semi Destructive Hazardous Materials Investigation Within Select Sections Of Willway Elementary School, 2939 Mt Wells Dr, Victoria, Bc V9b 4T4. This Investigation Was Conducted Prior To Hvac Upgrade In Select Locations. This Investigation Was Carried Out On April 1, 2026. This Investigation Was Intended To Identify The Locations And Types Of Hazardous Materials That Are Present In The Area Of The Building Where Renovations Are Taking Place Only. Block Walls In The Original Building Are Known To Have Asbestos Containing Vermiculite Within The Cells. Though Not Observed At The Time Of Inspection, Asbestos Containing Vermiculite May Also Exist On Top Of Shelves Or On Top Of Suspended Ceilings Where It Has Leaked Out. Some Interior Walls Have Vermiculite In Them. All Accessible Areas Where Renovations Will Be Taking Place Were Inspected. Invasive Sampling Was Partially Carried Out (Coring Roof Membranes). The Scope Of Our Investigation Focused On Proposed Renovation Area Only. Hvac Upgrade Will Be Taking Place Within The Original Building And Addition’S. The Original Building Is A Concrete Block Construction. Heating Is A Combination Of Hvac And Electric Baseboard Radiant Heat. New Hvac Will Be Replacing Existing Roof Top Hvac Systems. Outdoor Air Will Be Achieved Through These Updated Hvac Systems. Block Walls In The Original Building Are Known To Have Asbestos Containing Vermiculite Within The Cells. Lead In Paint Sampling Was Conducted As Part Of This Survey. Due To The Destructive Nature Of The Testing, Tclp Sampling Was Not Conducted At This Time.
