The accurate placement of the spectral bands during manufacturing is particularly challenging for long wavelengths as layer thicknesses have to be met at the same accuracy for much longer deposition times. Stability is mainly influencedby the long-term stability of the coating layers due to potential diffusion processes, in particular, when the layers are not denseenough. The availability of the coating technology for infrared coatings is limited and requires further developments to meet the needs for future Earth-Observation missions working in the Mid-to-Long-Wave and Thermal InfraRed regions. The activity will focus on the development of infrared bandpass and narrowband filters and, in particular, on the associated coating technology to be able to produce reproducible and stable filters with high spectral accuracy (90%). Particular aspects of coating delamination, imperfections and degradation would be assessed carefully, accounting for relevant environmental conditions (e.g. vacuum, thermal, radiations). Thisactivity encompasses the following tasks: - Review/implementation of improved deposition processes with potential in-process monitoring (using outcomes of precursor activity)- Review/design of optical bandpass and narrowband filter coatings with improved spectral shape and response and low sensitivity to manufacturing tolerances - Manufacturing of selected coatings on witness and demonstration samples (standard flat disks) - Characterization of the main optical performances and essential secondary requirements- Assessment of reproducibility and stability of the manufacturing processes and performances - Way forward (e.g. qualification in relevant environment, industrialization, etc.)Procurement Policy: C(1) = Activity restricted to non-prime contractors (incl.
