Request for proposals for Poetry Lab Trainer (Spoken Word and Digital Storytelling) The FATI ABUBAKAR ARTS FOUNDATION (FAAF) invites qualified consultants to apply as a Poetry Lab Trainer under the Arts for Memorialization and Healing Legacy Phase Project. We are seeking an experienced trainer to design and deliver a trauma-sensitive Poetry Lab, equipping participants with skills in spoken word, storytelling, and performance for advocacy and healing. 3. Type of Award FAAF intends to award a Consultancy contract as a result of this RFP, though other contract types may be employed if required. 2. Selection Criteria FAAF will make an award decision based on the candidate whose proposal is technically acceptable (meets or exceeds the stated technical specifications) proposals received. A. Technical Proposal - CV/Profile - Relevant experience III. Scope of Work The Consultant Trainer will be responsible for the following: A. Curriculum Development Develop a detailed 5-day training curriculum aligned with the projects goals, objectives, and expected outcomes. Integrate key themes such as: - Transitional justice and memorialization - Healing and storytelling - Ethical and trauma-sensitive narration - Performance techniques and audience engagement Submit the curriculum for review and approval before the training. B. Training Delivery (5 Days Physical Sessions) Facilitate daily interactive sessions (10:00 AM 2:00 PM) using participatory and learner-centered approaches. Deliver sessions covering: - Poetry fundamentals (structure, form, and style) - Spoken word and performance techniques - Voice projection, expression, and stage presence - Guided writing and reflection exercises - Editing, refining, and presenting poetry Provide continuous coaching and individualized feedback to participants. Support each participant to develop at least one complete, performance-ready poetry piece. Introduce simple digital storytelling elements where relevant to enhance advocacy outputs. C. Mentorship Phase (Hybrid 2 Months) Conduct weekly or bi-weekly virtual/physical mentorship sessions in collaboration with the FAAF team. Provide ongoing guidance to participants in: - Refining poetry pieces - Preparing for exhibitions and public performances - Strengthening storytelling and advocacy messaging Track participant progress and engagement throughout the mentorship period. IV. Deliverables The Consultant Trainer is expected to deliver the following: 1. Training Curriculum - A structured curriculum aligned with project objectives prior to implementation to be approved by the FAAF program team. 2. Training Implementation - Effective delivery of the 5-day Poetry Lab using the approved curriculum. 3. Final Training Report - Comprehensive report covering: Training approach and methodology Key achievements and outputs Participant progress and feedback Challenges and recommendations 4. Mentorship Reports (Monthly) - Two monthly reports (May & June) detailing: Sessions conducted Participant engagement and progress Key outcomes and recommendations V. Required Qualifications and Experience Proven experience in spoken word, poetry, or performance arts. Demonstrated experience facilitating workshops, especially with youth or conflict-affected populations. Strong understanding of storytelling for advocacy, healing, or social change. Experience in mentorship and creative coaching is an added advantage. VI.
