Work Detail
Engineering Services – Monument-Compliant New Construction Of The Stuttgart Cable Car Bridge, Object Planning Of The Engineering Structure And Structural Planning. Since October 30, 1929, The Stuttgart Funicular Has Connected Südheimer Platz In The Heslach District With The Forest Cemetery In The Degerloch District Without Stopping. Part Of The Route Is A Bridge That Leads The Route Over Burgstallstrasse. The Bridge Itself, Like The Funicular, Was Built In 1929. The Supporting Structure Consists Of A Fixed Bearing In The Area Of The Valley Station And 3 Pillars. The Bridge Was Built With Spans Between 17.85 And 23.50 M And The Mountain-Side Transition Was Created As A Cantilevered Slab. The Superstructure Of The Bridge Is Designed As A Two-Girder T-Beam. The Width Is Based On The Vehicle Width Of The Cable Car And A Unilaterally Necessary Operating Route. In 2021, Renovation Work Was Carried Out On The Bridge With The Main Focus On Corrosion Protection Of The Steel Parts. In Addition, Known Concrete Damaged Areas Were Repaired. During The Renovation Work On The Cable Car Bridge In Heslach, It Became Apparent That The Damage Within The Structure Was Significantly More Extensive Than Had Previously Been Determined Non-Destructively By An Osa. A Ztv-Ing.-Compliant Renovation Was Not Possible Under The Circumstances Due To The Extent Of The Damage. As A Result, The Renovation Was Carried Out Under The Aspects Of Restoring Traffic Safety With Reduced Durability (Remaining Useful Life As Of 2021 Maximum 10 Years). In Addition, The Mössinger Engineering Office Prepared A Technical Statement, The Conclusion Of Which Is That A (Partial) New Building Is Unavoidable. The Funicular, Including The Affected Bridge, Is On The List Of Cultural Monuments In Baden-Württemberg With The Fundamental Aim Of Preserving It For Scientific And Local History Reasons. The Monument Protection Authority Has Already Been Informed About The Circumstances. In May 2024 There Was Also An Informal Exchange On Site And A Prioritization Of The Protection Goals. The Funicular Will Be Taken Out Of Operation For The Construction Project Itself. Passenger Transport Between The Mountain And Valley Stations Is Carried Out By Alternative Bus Service. Overall, This Is An Additional Burden, Which Is Why The Construction Work Must Be Optimized To The Minimum Amount Of Time Required.
