There Is Serious Grid Congestion In And Around The Municipality Of Utrecht: The Growth In Electricity Demand, Local Generation And Electrification Is Happening Faster Than The Electricity Grid Can Handle. This Limits Feed-In, Postpones New Connections And Creates Insufficient Room For Growth And Sustainability Of Companies. This Emphasizes The Need To Balance Energy Smarter And More Efficiently At The Local Level. Energy Nodes Play A Crucial Role In This. This Is Where Local Generation, Storage, Flexible Consumption And Infrastructure Come Together. Lage Weide Is One Of The Important Energy Hubs Of The Municipality Of Utrecht And The Largest Business Park In The Municipality, With More Than 900 Companies Spread Over 308 Hectares. The Area Has Various Relevant Energy Initiatives: Planned Wind Turbines, An Existing Energy Hub, Flexible Generation By Stedin, There Is A Power Plant With 250Mw Capacity, Both Stedin And Tennet Have A High-Voltage Station There, And The Newly Developed Ockhuizen Solar Field Is Located Nearby. The Challenge Is To Integrally Connect These Developments Into A Robust Decentralized Energy System, In Which Energy Is Generated, Stored, Shared, Controlled And Used Locally. To Design And Realize Such A System, Insight Into Current And Future Energy Flows Is Required. A Digital Twin Can Provide This Insight And Thus Form The Basis For Management, Design And Collaboration With Companies At Lage Weide.
