Work Detail
Tenders are invited for Survey and Feasibility Study of Rf Technologies for the l4 Enceladus Lander - Expro+ To perform a survey study and experimental of RF technologies to demonstrate the suitability of this technology for ranging, surface characterization in the frame of the L4- Enceladus mission.DescriptionRF technologies (such as FMCW systems) have proven their efficiency for ranging and hazard detection for terrestrial and space applications.Additionally, water ice / snow soils have strong distinctive RF signatures for example in themicrowave frequency range.1) Review of L4 needs and requirements vs existing RF technologies and devices. Inparticular, review existing FMCW radar technologies/solutions and recent developmentsfor Moon/Mars environments.2) Procure or build and as needed adapt suitable RF instruments to be used as a prototype.3) Conduct performance/reliability tests in analogous to Enceladus ice and snow surfaces.Conduct test campaigns focused on snow/ice surfaces addressing the primary objectives.4) Derive a technology development roadmap for instruments adaptations to fulfill missionneeds. Determine requirements forEnceladus use-case with a focus on reliability testingin relevant Enceladus Lander environment to further raise the TRLThis activity therefore aims performing a survey and feasibility study as well asexperimental tests to demonstrate the suitability of RF technologies deployed onboard theESA L4-Enceladus lander to secure the landing with the following goals:- primary task: altimeter for the lander (max altitude of 20 - 100 km TBC), with capabilitiesof analyzing snow surface properties at close range (10 - 100m TBC) to support the landersite selection regarding mechanical surface stability- secondary task: mapping of surface topology (e.g. surface inclination, obstacles suchcrevasses and boulders)The additional ability of this device to be integrated into the lander-orbiter communicationsarchitecture would be considered a benefit. The activity shall contain as a minimum the following tasks:Read more Tender Link : https://esastar-publication-ext.sso.esa.int/ESATenderActions/filter/open
