Tenders Are Invited For Restoration Of The N:P Balance Of Dry Heath That Was Dug In The Past

The Research Focuses On Restoring The Nutrient Balance In Dry Heathland That Has Been Dug Up In The Past. Previous Turf Management Has Led To A Reduction In Nitrogen, But Also To Increased Phosphorus Limitation And Reduced Availability Of Basic Cations, With Negative Consequences For Flora And Fauna. As A Result, Many Damaged Heathland Vegetations Have Remained Species-Poor. P-Addition, Whether Or Not Combined With Recovery Of Basic Cations, Is Seen As A Possible Follow-Up Measure. However, Its Applicability, Effectiveness And Sustainability Have Not Yet Been Sufficiently Developed. The Research Must Provide Insight Into: • The Current Status Of Nitrogen, Phosphorus And Buffering In Pegged And Chopped Dry Heathland; • The Long-Term Effects Of P Addition And Any Buffer Restoration Measures On Soil, Vegetation And Fauna; • The Conditions Under Which P Addition Can Be Applied Effectively, Safely And Sustainably.
