Su27tgc001 – Broadleaf Silviculture Surveys - Prince George . The Purpose Of This Contract Is To Conduct Broadleaf Free Growing Surveys On Approximately 650 Hectares Of Bcts Cut-Blocks West Of Highway 97 And North Of Highway 16 Around Saxton Lake And Surrounding Areas. These Blocks Fall Within The Interior Broadleaf Working Group (Ibwg) Study Area. There Is Currently 3,158 Ha Of Broadleaf (≥ 75% Broadleaf) And 4,903 Ha Of Mixedwoods (25-75% Broadleaf) In Age Class 5 Within The Study Area (Thlb And Non-Thlb). Currently, There Is Not Adequate Broadleaf Or Mixedwood Area In Age Class 1 To Replace Age Class 5 Broadleaves. Furthermore, Existing Age Class 1 Broadleaf And Mixedwood Stands May Not Become Age Class 5 Broadleaf Or Mixedwood Stands As The Recent Modelling Work With Mgm Suggests That Natural Succession Over 80 Years May Still Result In A Conifer Leading Stand (Comeau 2024). The Purpose Of This Survey Project Is To Support The Recruitment Of Age Class 1 Broadleaf And Mixedwood Stands To What Currently Exists In Age Class 5 Within The Ibwg Study Area. This Is Important To Rebalance The Forecasted Age Class Distribution Given The High Value Of Old Broadleaf And Mixedwood Stands For Ecological Function And Wildlife Habitat. The Recruitment Of Young Stands For Future Old Age Classes Concurrently Addresses Timber And Non-Timber Values, Such As Biodiversity; Ecosystem Resilience To Wildfire, Forest Health And Climate Change; Wildlife Habitat; First Nations Values; Connectivity; Restoration; Etc. The Plot Intensity Is 1 Plot/Ha.
