The Regional District Of Central Kootenay (Rdck) Is Seeking Qualified Contractors To Provide Mechanical And/Or Hand Brushing Services Along The Great Northern Rail Trail (Gnt), Spanning From South Cottonwood Lake To 2Nd Street In Salmo. This Project Covers Up To 32 Kilometers Of Multi-Use Recreational Trail And Is Essential For Ensuring Safe, Accessible, And Well-Maintained Conditions For The Public. The Scope Of Work Includes The Use Of Either Rubber-Tracked Or Rubber-Tired Excavators Equipped With A Flail Mower Attachment (Minimum 36 Cutting Width) Or By Use Of Hand-Brushing Tools Capable Of Completing The Required Task Where Necessary. Vegetation Clearing Must Extend To A Minimum Of 36 Inches Beyond The Travelled Trail Surface, With All Brushing Flush Cut To The Ground And No Woody Debris Protruding More Than 1 Inch. Trees Greater Than 7.5 Cm (3) Dbh Must Remain Standing. All Work Will Take Place Between Mid-June And Mid-September, Under High-Risk Activity Guidelines As Defined By The Wildfire Act And Must Be Completed Within The 2026 Brushing Season (April 1 – October 31). Timing Of The Work Will Depend On Trail Vegetation Growth And The Potential Of Fire Risk. Contractors Must Demonstrate Proven Experience, The Necessary Specialized Equipment, And The Ability To Complete The Project Safely And Efficiently. Quotes Will Be Evaluated Primarily On Price Per Kilometer, But Consideration Will Also Be Given To Contractor Qualifications, Operational Capacity, Environmental Practices, And Overall Ability To Meet Rdck Standards. The Successful Proponent Will Be Required To Meet All Insurance, Safety, And Contractual Obligations Outlined In The Rfq And Accompanying Draft Contract.
