Archaeological Services – Commissioning An Archaeological Excavation. The Municipality Of Großenkneten Is Planning To Develop A New Residential Area In The Ahlhorn District. The Approximately 10.1 Hectare Area Was Prospected Using An Excavator In November And December 2025. 22 Approximately North-South Oriented Search Sections Were Created. A Former Sand Pit In The Northwest Of The Area Was Left Out. During The Prospection, 34 Archaeologically Relevant Findings Were Discovered, As Well As A Large Number (53) Modern Findings And Disturbances. The Relevant Findings Are Distributed Unevenly Across The Planning Area. The Largest Concentration Is In The Southwest Of The Area, With Smaller Ones In The North And Southeast. Only A Partial Area On The Very Western Edge Was Completely Free Of Findings. However, Only One Finding Was Found In A Total Of Four Areas. The Findings Include Post Pits, General Settlement Pits, Two Kiln Pits Or Fireplaces, A Ditch And Presumably A Well. In Contrast To Modern Faults, The Findings Appeared To Be Diffusely Gray-Brown In The Planum And Only Stood Out Moderately. The Depth Obtained Was 20 To 30 Cm. No Finds Were Recovered During Prospecting. In View Of The Distribution Of Findings, The Excavation Of A Total Of Five Areas Totaling Around 24,500 M² Is Necessary, Which Will Be Expanded If Further Findings Occur. The Surroundings Of The Four Isolated Findings Were Left Out Of This Calculation (See Site Plan - Tender Documents).
