These types of devices exchange information or determine their position only occasionally in order to maximize battery lifetime. They are nonetheless, susceptible to spoofing attacks and have little barriers against malevolent parties.The aforementioned applications rely on the broadcast of information with very low throughput, sporadic connection and that poses a challenge for source and data authentication. Added to this, asset trackers and IoT devices require that energy consumption is kept to aminimum andhardware implementation remains simple and thus, solutions based on conventional cryptographic methods cannot efficiently address their needs because they are potentially too demanding.This activity will investigate several cryptographic techniques such as selective verification, Broadcast Authentication Streams, and stream ciphers for message and signal authentication, as well as power-efficient verification strategies. It will trade-off use case specific performances, such as energy consumption, communication overhead,against achievable levels of security. This activity will enable resilient communication and PNT solutions for low-throughput and low-power applications and, while activity will focus on GNSS and IoT systems operating in licensed and unlicensed bands, the resultswill be applicable to any throughput- and energy-constrained system.This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Assessing state-of-the-art relevant to the activity, in particular in low-energy PNT solutions, and in signal and message authentication for GNSSand IoT.- Designing and optimising signal and message authentication for low-throughput systems.- Implementing and testing the solutions in a laboratory environment.- Assessing and benchmarking performances.
