Laboratory, Optical And Precision Equipments (Excl. Glasses) – Cmp Anlage. The Institute Of Semiconductor Optics And Functional Interfaces (Ihfg) Has Developed Inas Quantum Dots (Qds) That Emit In The C-Band Of The Telecommunications Sector. For This Purpose, A Metamorphic Buffer Layer (Mmb) Made Of Ingaas Was Inserted Between The Active Qd Layer And The Gaas Substrate To Manipulate The Voltage In The System. In Order To Significantly Improve The Optical Quality, Especially The Emission Line Width, The Mmb Layers Must Be Mechanically Removed By Precision Polishing In The Next Step. Removal Of The Mmb Would Not Only Improve The Emission Properties But Also Facilitate The Fabrication Of Strain-Free Qd Membranes, Paving The Way For The Fabrication Of High-Performance, High-Yield Photonic Structures. To Achieve This, A Precision Polishing System Is Required That Can Polish Iii-V Materials To A Surface Roughness As Sub-Nanometer As Possible (Rms < 1 Nm) And Offers Excellent Total Thickness Deviation (Ttv) Control And High Reproducibility. Furthermore, With Such A Polishing System, It Would Be Possible To Realize Iii-V/Si-Based Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits (Qpics) Through Direct Bonding.
