Firesmart Wildfire Hazardous Fuel Management Program Request For Proposal No.: Ac2026-06Issued: February 20, 2026Submission Deadline: March 13, 2026, At 12:00 (Mt)This Request For Proposal (The “Rfp”) Is An Invitation By Athabasca County (The “County”) To Qualified Prospective Proponents To Submit Proposals For The Firesmart Wildfire Hazardous Fuel Management Program Within Athabasca County, As Further Described In Section A Of Appendix D Of This Rfp.The Project Occurs In Athabasca County, Which Is In The Boreal Region Of North Central Alberta. The County Covers A Land Area Of 6,123 Km2, With Over One Third Being Crownland, And Has A Varied Landscape Consisting Primarily Of Agricultural Lands, Forested Area, And Numerous Lakes.The Proposed Project Is In And Around The Hamlet Of Caslan (Firesmart Project Ffp-24-69-Atc), Northwest Of The Fire Hall And Caslan Community Centre. Targeting High Risk C2 (Boreal Spruce) Fuels That Are Adjacent To Critical Infrastructure (Fire Hall And Afrrcs Tower) And Other Values (Community Hall) This Treatment Would See A Defensible Space Created Between The Fuel And The Values As Well As A Substantive Fuel Modification In The Remaining Fuel. Adjacent To (East Of) The Immediate Values At Risk Is A Significant Residential Development Within The Hamlet Which Further Elevates The Need To Complete This Project.The Proposed Treatment Includes Mechanical Thinning (Mulching) Of C2 (Boreal Spruce) Fuels To Reduce Continuity And Lessen Fire Intensity Should It Occur.Through This Rfp, Athabasca County Seeks To:A.Select The Preferred Proponent With Whom To Negotiate A Contract.B.Specify The Requirements That Would Govern Any Resulting Agreement.C.Determine Cost.It Is The County’S Intention To Enter Into A Contract With One Proponent.
